Thank you!! We're actually reading Kindred for book club next month over at The Gathering (my other publication/space)!! I just read Sula by Toni Morrison recently and haven't been able to stop thinking about it. Definitely moving Jazz up higher on the list and adding The Coldest Winter!
I suggest ANY story or novel by Octavia Butler, Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche, Meditations by Zadie Smith (nonfiction written in 2020 just FYI)
Kindred by Octavia Butler
Jazz by Toni Morrison
Coldest Winter Ever by Sistah Souljah

Girl, Kindred is good. That will make for excellent conversation/ material.
Jazz is my FAVORITE Toni Morrison book, and one of my favorite books ever.
Coldest Winter Ever is certainly street lit/ urban fiction. I do consider it a classic.
You’re making me EXCITED! I appreciate the recs so much! And feel free to join us for virtual book club next month ✨
I may do that!
We'd love to have you! Absolutely zero pressure, but here's the link for July if you decide to pop in 🫶🏼 https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/CzfjTFMeSdiyOJ-D_4qQRQ
I think everyone should read Richard Wright's Black Boy.

I think you might enjoy Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid if you haven’t already read it
I have not! Adding it to my list now 🙂
